SHARR HIGHLIGHTS PART 1 - LJUBOTEN

SHARR HIGHLIGHTS PART 1 - LJUBOTEN

Tour duration: 3 days (2 nights)
Where: Macedonia
Difficulty: Moderate
Price per person: 179 € + 60 € local supplement
Tour highlights:

In the antiques the mountain was known by the name Scardus and it was considered the central mountain range of the Balkans, spreading from the Adriatic sea to the Black sea, having Ljuboten peak as one of the highest in the Balkans. This tour offers a gradual hike to Ljuboten peak, where the entire route to the peak is split on 2 parts: from the foothill to the mountain hut Ljuboten, and from there to Ljuboten peak and back to the hut. The last day descend can be on the same trail down to the foothill. However, in this tour we suggest a longer hike for the third day (16km) which traverses the eastern side of Ljuboten peak – it travels by Livadicko glacial lake and offers fantastic views of the peak Ljuboten, the entire ridge of Sharr mountains and of Polog valley. This trail will lead you down to the lovely village of Belovishte – to a restaurant with a swimming pool for a well-deserved refreshment after the hike.

Where: Macedonia
Difficulty: Moderate / Challenging
Price per person: 544 € + 80 € local supplement
Tour highlights:

Discover the amazing diversity of North Macedonia, where each mountain has a different story to tell. In few hours hike from the bubbling capital city of Skopje you will be in a nature reserve surrounded by high dolomite rock faces, caves, rare plant species and medieval monasteries that remind us of the times when this canyon was inhabited only by monks. This first hike will be your warm-up for the hikes that follow – across the Central mountain massif with spectacular views reaching to the Dinaric Alps on one side, and to the Rhodope mountain range on the other. You will be also hiking to the mystical Treskavec monastery on a trail leading you between granite rocks and boulders in an outer-earthly landscape; and end the tour in national park Pelister, where peaks rising to 2.600m are separated by deep valleys, springs, streams and rivers, and two glacial lakes that lace the landscape. The last overnight on this tour is in a mountain hut by the bigger glacial lake, where you can enjoy the tranquility of the place and the most beautiful sunrise. Since there will be very few transfers on the route, you will be staying in small family-run hotels and mountain huts – some of them basic, with shared facilities, but located in 5*, awe-inspiring nature.

SOLUNSKA GLAVA AND CENTRAL MOUNTAIN MASSIF

SOLUNSKA GLAVA AND CENTRAL MOUNTAIN MASSIF

Tour duration: 3 days (2 nights)
Where: Macedonia
Difficulty: Easy / Moderate
Price per person: 149 € + 60 € local supplement
Tour highlights:

Jakupica massif covers the heart of North Macedonia with an area of 1500 km2, and spreads in longitude and latitude in 50 by 50 km. The mountain has a glacial past that can been seen in many cirques, few glacial lakes and deep narrow valleys carved by fast mountain creeks. Thus the massif has a rare esthetic beauty when looked from above – either by plane or in a map – it resembles a starfish – five tentacles emerging from a central body (head).
These hikes will take into Jakupica and Dautica mountains on the south, sunny side, and up to Solunska Glava peak – the most prominent and the highest peak in the Central Macedonian Massif. The mountains are rich with flora and fauna typical for sub-alpine regions, pastures and torrents, where many water springs spread all over the mountain offering the cleanest water for drinking and refreshment thus the alternate name of the mountain – Mokra Planina (Wet Mountain).
