geographical description 01
The heart of the Balkans is where Macedonia is located and it is constantly under the influence of a climate from the Black Sea to the East, the Aegean Sea to the South and Ionian Sea to the West. This is the reason why specific climatic conditions are present in this predominantly mountainous country. The relief in Macedonia is strongly highlighted by the valley formed by the largest river Vardar. Cutting the country in half, the river divides the South from the West of Macedonia – parts that once operated outside the geographical criteria. Trapped on land, Macedonia is a country which is surrounded on all sides by mountain ranges. But this is the reason for the abundance of riches – from Maleshevo to the East, to Shar Planina to the West – many nameless springs flow out from the land and flow into many Macedonian rivers. The abundance of water is evident by the countless mountain lakes with dark blue water, as well as the pearl – Lake Ohrid, one of the oldest lakes in the world, with an amazing flora and fauna which makes it a live museum.

The border to the north, toward Serbia, which is longer than 200 km, start with the most beautiful mountain Shara and extends across the river Lepenec and Skopje Crna Gora, in order to finally complete the triangle with Serbia and Bulgaria. From here, the border passes through Maleshevo mountain range and river Strumica up to the Greek borger. The southern border, mostly influenced by the Mediterranean climate from the Aegean Sea, cuts across Dojran Lake, the passage across Vardar and Mario Region, as well as the passage across Baba Mountain, from where one can see the biggest Macedonian field of grain, Pelagonija, then it cuts through the second biggest lake, Prespa Lake. After that one can see the Albanian border – across the pearl – Ohrid Lake, the border spreads until Jablanica, cuts through Crn Drim until it finally stops across Shara, beyond which point the Serbian border begins.

In addition to the incredible archeological treasures, under the Macedonia soil one can find many supplies of ores, not excluding lorandite. This mineral, which is used for detecting neutrino particles, can be found on only two places in the world. Due to lack of industrial development, when compared to the developed Western countries, Macedonia is considered to be a land with unpolluted nature. This makes it an unforgettable place for all those who enjoy natural scenery, hiking, hunting, photo-safari and everything that has to do with an escape from urban jungles and the return to the natural scents of the forest after a rainy day, a return to clean air, a return to the pristine state of peace and tranquility with nature.
